The Pet Savers Foundation (www.petsavers.org) is a non-profit corporation founded in 1992 to solve the growing national tragedy of needless suffering and death of homeless companion animals.

They sponsor the SPAY/USA program, a clearinghouse of information about spay/neuter services, with over 1,000 participating programs and clinics nationwide. They works with individuals and groups seeking to reduce pet overpopulation. Their goal is to make spay/neuter services affordable to those who might not otherwise spay/neuter their pets. They have a toll free number, 1-800-248-SPAY (1-800-248-7729) with phone counselors available Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. EST

They also sponsor CHAMP ( the Conference on Homeless Animal Management and Policy) Their conferences provides an opportunity for those involved in shelter management and animal control, veterinary staff, animal caregivers and educators to participate in first-class educational workshops and to discuss varying and sometimes controversial philosophies of the animal welfare movement.

Alley Cat Allies (www.alleycat.org) Founded in 1990, ACA was the first national organization to help feral cat caretakers implement humane nonlethal methods of population control. Their online INF0 CENTER has state by state links to spay/neuter resources plus a large offering of practical factsheets and articles regarding feral cat care, and links to feral cat groups (by state).

Love That Cat! Store (www.lovethatcat.com) Web site includes a spay/neuter directory of Low Cost and Free Spay/Neuter Programs Nationwide and by State. Addresses and phone numbers are given and include many local resources which may not be online. Preceding the directory is some excellent information about pet overpopulation and other information of interest to cat owners.

Feral Cat Coalition (www.feralcat.com), San Diego, CA has created a successful feral cat program which serves as a model for other communities. Their website defines what a feral cat is, spells out the origin and enormity of feral populations, the harsh realities these cats face, and the financial drain on public resources pet overpopulation represents. You may contact them to receive detailed information about starting a feral cat program and they offer a wealth of articles on their website relating to feral cats.

Urban Cat League (www.urbancatleague.org) New York, N.Y. offers a video with information about taming feral kittens. It featuresVet Tech, Mike Phillips (a.k.a. “the cat whisperer”) who is shown working with feral kittens at each stage of the process. For information about the video see www.urbancatleague.org/VideoSocKittens.htm.

Please consider the distressing plight of a huge multitude
of unwanted animals, and remember to spay and neuter
your pets before they reproduce.
